Caterpillar ID - Zaraea
Three Rivers WMA, between Onondaga and Oswego Counties, Onondaga County, New York, USA
July 4, 2008
Size: 1.25 inch
I found several of these caterpillars on what appeared to be wild honeysuckle bushes.

We see about seven pair
of abdominal prolegs, so this is a sawfly larva. Identifying the foodplant should be a great help to the experts.

Honeysuckle Sawfly ~ Zaraea fasciata
The host plant for both of these leaf rollers was honeysuckle. It appears to be the larva of the Honeysuckle Sawfly, Zaraea fasciata.

Can you tell us how you figured this out?
Great work! Do you see others on the base sawfly page that seem to be the same to you? We have many unidentified sawfly larvae to figure out. Thanks
