Scoliid Wasp? - Scolia bicincta

Scoliid Wasp? - Scolia bicincta
Mathews County, Virginia, USA
September 6, 2006
Is this Scolia bicincta? Thank you for any help with identification.

Yes, male.
Your ID is correct, Carol:-) Any way you can enlarge the images?

Thank you...
Eric, thank you for the confirmation. I was able to make the ID from an excellent field guide that I have. :-)

I can make the images larger but the quality will not change. In fact, it may get even worse since I would be enlarging beyond what the images actually are. I took the photos at full zoom since the Autumn Sedum was loaded with wasps and bees and I was reluctant to get any closer. The Scoliid wasp is a very small part of the overall photos which were cropped drastically. Alternatively, I could wait until next fall when the bushes are in full bloom again and see if I can find and get a macro image of this little guy. Let me know if you still would like these images larger. I will be happy to do so. ~ Carol
