consider this post of yours from Coto de Caza:

You'll probably recall that V. lateralis is a complex of species, but this one can be lumped into it.

After posting this, I heard that Villa IDs to species weren't currently available. I do remember the lumping from before, but thought that not correct at this time.

 
What do you mean by 'available'?
So far, I've lumped only the black and white striped ones into lateralis , following Neal Evenhuis' advice. The other ones, with orange, are identifiable only with a specimen (& I wouldn't feel qualified for those), are better put into Villa , only on genus level; there's so much variation in coloration and striping, even in the black-and-white ones.
Your Riley fly, which you put into lateralis last year is arguably the same sp. as the present one, and should thus also better be at genus level.
Perhaps someone, with a grant from a baseball team (who else has money?), will revise this genus.
