I think that this is a fly because I only see 2 wings. Am I correct? Any ID? It was on the blossoms of a lilac bush.

Moved
Moved from Syrphid Flies.

Helophilus borealis
Female, one of the Northern species which even might occur in Europe as well.
If I find some more info, I'll get back to it!

Ahh yes, I thought it looked familiar, it's a female of Helophilus borealis!

Great!
Thank you Gerard for another ID. I've moved these images to the genus page for now because there is no Guide Page for the species, Helophilus boreal. Hopefully a BugGuide editor will create one. Thanks again.

One of
the Syrphid flies I'm pretty sure but I'm not familiar with this particular species. Nice shots though. I'm sure someone can ID it for you. It looks like a female.

Nice find
Definitely syrphid. (Yes, it pays to have good shots of wing veins!)

Thanks
I appreciate the syrphid fly ID from both you and Jon. I've moved the images to the family page.
