Dobsonfly (Corydalus) - Corydalus cornutus - female

Dobsonfly (Corydalus) - Corydalus cornutus - Female
New London, Ralls County, Missouri, USA
July 4, 2008
Size: 3 inches long
This large insect, with two pairs of wings and impressive pincers, showed up in the porch garden in the evening of July 4th. I believe it is a female Dobsonfly. The mandible looks quite formidable, but the mandible of the male is usually much longer.

Not an expert but...

Dobsonflies! Yes!
Thank you for that info. I believe you are quite correct, and that it is a female Dobsonfly.
