Identification is based on the Sphecius key found on this website. Someone let me know if I am wrong!

Correct.
Further, the fact that the yellow markings are not present on all the abdominal terga rules out S. grandis. I saw a few of these today in Tucson, alas way too high in th blooming eucalyptus trees to get a net on (sigh).
