Small Milkweed Bug - Lygaeus kalmii

One of many seen on the southern side of the house near our dormant milkweed patch. This one was single, but others were seen mating. There was still quite a lot of snow on the ground at the time, despite the spring temperatures, due to the extremely heavy snowfall experienced in Ottawa during the winter of 2007-2008.
