Baldfaced hornet queen entering - Dolichovespula maculata - female

Baldfaced hornet queen entering - Dolichovespula maculata - Female
Howell, Michigan, USA
June 15, 2008
I have a series of pix of her entering and then exiting. This is on the corner of our garage near the sidewalk to front door. If they are "good neighbors" we'll leave them to their thing, but I fear as the nest grows we're in for some trouble. Plus, the back is against the door so every time we open the door it pulls a little away which is bound to rile them up.

awesome!
I'm jelous lol. thats a nice nest please try to leave them be as long as you can. i understand killing them if they become a problem although I'd much rather see the nest develope! thanks for posting these nice images of this nice little nest! = )

Keeping fingers crossed
So far they are being good neighbors. Of course, we give them plenty of space and I've advised the delivery guy to beware. As long as they continue to focus on their business they can stay :)

Great!
I hope you keep adding photos as the nest progresses since you found it at such an early stage.
