Bombardier Beetle - Brachinus favicollis

Bombardier Beetle - Brachinus favicollis
near Fort Apache, Navajo County, Arizona, USA
June 24, 2008
Size: 11mm

Thank you Peter
Before you started identifying specimens, only one species of Brachinus had been identified. Now there's five species and counting, in the guide.

Brachinus favicollis
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen. Important to the identification are the dense coarse punctures distributed uniformly over the pronotum. See data & image. New to me and BG. Thanks Tom for this kind of challenge which does take some time to process confidently.
