Pupa

Pupa
Sand Springs, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
July 6, 2008
Size: 13mm (1/2")
It almost looks as if this larva was eating the caterpillar. Or is the caterpillar coming out of the casing ?
It was in a leaf pulled shut with a web.
Please help with ID.

Pupa Pupa

As Eric pointed out,
the pupa forms inside the last larval exoskeleton. The Pupa then shucks off that old caterpillar skin to have room to form the pupal shape.

Pupa.
This looks to me like a moth pupa with the residual remains of the last shed caterpillar 'skin.'
