Giant Swallowtail, Finally! - Papilio cresphontes

Giant Swallowtail, Finally! - Papilio cresphontes
San Joaquin Marsh, Irvine, Orange County, California, USA
July 7, 2008
These butterflies are relative newcomers to Orange County, being here for 20-30 years. I've been trying to get some decent images for couple of years, finding these large lovelies both scarce and elusive. Apparently, they never settle down to nectar leisurely, but keep flapping while eating.
