Married Well - Dorcus parallelus - male

Married Well - Dorcus parallelus - Male
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
June 6, 2005
Size: Small to medium beetle
A man knows he has married well when he returns from a photography foray and his wife says "I found a beetle for you and it is in a jar on the porch"! She had found it crawling around on the ground, under bark mulch.

I thought of Scarabidae, but I soon came over to thinking Lucanidae, Stag Beetles. This is a family I don't encounter that often. Maybe genus Dorcus? The legs are flattened and broadened for digging, and there is a neat horn on top of the pinchers, which the other photo shows. Confirmations or denials of Dorcus as the genus appreciated, and any other identification help.
