which flower fly ? - Female
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
July 9, 2008
Size: 1/2 "
This is a pretty fly .I found him in my yard lounging on the Tallow tree cleaning up . It seemed all the bugs were frolicking after I watered the plants on a hot and humid 100 degree day . Thanks for any comments to further my buggie knowledge , sincerely Beth

Eristalis species, female -
- Eyes dioptic/ not touching. Perhaps E. arbustorum , but wait for comments by someone more knowledgeable in these flies.

Nice find, Beth.
Thorax has an unusual patterning to it. This one may be special.

Hartmut, the other shot reminds me of the famous photo of Winston Churchill walking down the railroad tracks. (Hey, I wouldn't share this comment with everyone! LOL.)

You must have heard my laughter
all the way to Irvine! I know someone whose dog is named Winston, and my granddaughter, teething right now, at times makes a face like WC.

Bully!
Hey, do I know my audience, or what?
