Red & Black compost beetle - Glischrochilus fasciatus University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA June 3, 2008 Size: 6 mm?
Rather common if you know where to look: I've found them in compost and on fresh tree stumps, feeding on the sap. This one was flying through the air when I found it.
I've seen at least three or four varieties of these guys, but this is the only one I've been really able to photograph.
