Red & Black compost beetle - Glischrochilus fasciatus

Red & Black compost beetle - Glischrochilus fasciatus

Size: 6 mm?
Rather common if you know where to look: I've found them in compost and on fresh tree stumps, feeding on the sap. This one was flying through the air when I found it.

I've seen at least three or four varieties of these guys, but this is the only one I've been really able to photograph.

and I messed this up --
this is Glischrochilus fasciatus. My bad. I profusely apologize.

We all
make mistakes, don't worry about it. :D

Glischrochilus quadrisignatus...
...takes forever to type. Please take pics of those OTHER VARIETIES! this one in The Picnic Beetle, the commonest one...

Can do...
...there's almost always more then one type at any one spot.
Let me look, I might have snatched a photo of another... :P
