Dobsonfly - Corydalus cornutus - female

Dobsonfly - Corydalus cornutus - Female
Mason, Mason County, Texas, USA
July 10, 2008
Size: 2" (5 cm)
I caught this dobsonfly on my porch blacklighting (I was blacklighting, it was flying). Anyway, I was afraid to keep it overnight for a better picture because it wasn't happy in captivity so this is the best I could get. Very impressive creature.

NOTE: I had originally called this a snakefly but someone corrected me right away so I am now editing my submission.

Moved
Moved from Alderflies , Dobsonflies, and Fishflies. This is a female Corydalus cornutus.

Actually
This appears to be a female Dobsonfly, Order Megaloptera

Dobsonfly!
You are right--that's what it is. Thanks!
