Large Scarab beetle - Polyphylla decemlineata - male

Large Scarab beetle - Polyphylla decemlineata - Male
Bryant, King County, Washington, USA
July 10, 2008
Size: 28 mm
I had the outside light turned on this evening and about an hour after dusk this giant Scarab had landed on the wall. I didn't know we had such large beetles in Seattle... I took him (assume it's a 'him' because of the large antennae) and placed him on a leaf to take a couple of photos indoors. He was so docile I was able to take 6 shots of different DOF in a row, and then added them all with Helicon Focus software, a trial version of which I had coincidentally downloaded today. This beetle turned out to be a great subject for trying out this fantastic software...

Not an expert but...

Nice image! I will have to look into that software...

that's gotta be it...
Thanks for guiding me to the right pages on BugGuide. Ten-lined June Beetle seems to fit the image perfectly. I kept the specimen, so I could always look at it more closely later if needed. For now, I'll move it to Polyphylla decemlineata. Thanks.
