Grasshoppers - Melanoplus bivittatus

Grasshoppers - Melanoplus bivittatus
Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada
June 19, 2008
Size: 1/2 inch +
This little orange coloured grasshopper looked immature but I am not sure. I have not seen one this colour before. Help with ID please!

Melanoplus bivitattus
Yes, it's an immature hopper. A fourth (next to last) instar nymph of the Two-stripe Grasshopper. The colors and development of the dark markings vary a lot, so individual nymphs of the same species can look quite a lot different.

Thanks David for the ID and the extra information, I really appreciate it.

your welcome
Oh, and I got the spelling wrong - seem to do that a lot with this one. It is Melanoplus bivittatus.
