Southern Chinch Bug (Blissus insularis) - Blissus insularis

Southern Chinch Bug (Blissus insularis) - Blissus insularis
Torrance, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 10, 2008
Size: ~3 mm
Came flying inside.
First time visitor.

I brightened up this underexposed image a bit to show the darker details.

Four Nearctic (sub)species of Blissus are cosmopolitan.
The Los Angeles area is visited by Blissus insularis.

This would be a new species for BugGuide.

opinion of Merrill Sweet:
"Probably introduced into LA on San Augustine grass on which B. insularis is very fond. Hard to be sure of macropters."

Moved from Chinch Bugs.

Thanks for the confirmation and move, V !
Another one down.

It's a delight to have you and Dr. Sweet on BugGuide !
