Fuzzy bubbles

Fuzzy bubbles
Kellettville, Forest County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 4, 2008
Size: Maybe around 13 mm?
Many of these fuzzy bubbles were on the side of a new house that had wooden log-like siding. I suspect it is a spider egg case, but assume it may also be something wood-boring pupating? Up on a hill overlooking a creek under many different very tall trees. Some of them didn't have any black on them. Seemed semi-inflated when gently poked, like old bubble-wrap, not quite taut.

Jeff,
what do you have against having a separate section for spider egg sacs, as many insect groups have a section for eggs? It's hard to browse through photos of unidentified egg sacs when they're mixed in with all the unidentified spiders.

Spider egg sac
I agree, the circular/hemispherical shape and the dark tufts all say spider egg sac. What kind, I couldn't say at the moment--some theridiids and lynx spiders have similar tufts, but I don't remember any of them being attached to flat surfaces like this.

Thanks
I'll move here for now
