My First Robber At Home - Mallophora fautrix

My First Robber At Home - Mallophora fautrix
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 11, 2008
I have some weedy Dallis Grass in my front yard near the porch that I've been meaning to take out for some time. It hangs over a water-filled container with a lotus in it, and it's right next to an African Blue basil that swarms with bees and other pollinators.

The robber fly found a nice perch on a grass stem with a good view of both the lotus container and the basil.
