Santa Cruz River, Marana, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 10, 2008
Size: 3-4 mm
It was windy, and the beetle did not cooperate - so this is the only photo. I'll try to figure out the plant.

The color combination does no
The color combination does not fit either genus known in the US. Perhaps it is a Mexican species or Asphaera lustrans. Too bad we can't quite make out the last tarsal segment of the hind leg.

Too bad
I only got this very short look at it - but maybe I can find anotherone

It looks most like
Disonycha collata I think, only the the legs should be red instead of black. The green metallic lustre, absence of spots on the pronotum and the bicoloured head fit that species well.

Kuschelina or Disonycha
looks like Disonycha xanthomelas, only this one has a red head and more green lustre on the elytra. It might be some other species in Disonycha or Kuschelina. Maybe John can tell you more.
