I went back to the Heteromeles arbutifolia bush where is saw this guy on 10 July & took several more photos of it but the guy above also showed up & landed in the same place as the other & I didn't realize it was different until after I shot my one & only frame of it. Not the first time I thought I was taking a photo of a species of which I already had several photos. (live oak/chaparral habitat).

I don't believe I've come across either of these two, though I will admit that black and yellow can be mistaken, quite easily!

An important lesson learned
Don't take 'em for granted. I've been guilty rash assumptions a couple times last week and have vowed to examine potential subjects more closely. Yes, this is Chrysotoxum.
