beetle - Strategus antaeus

beetle - Strategus antaeus
Pinellas County, Florida, USA
July 12, 2008
Size: 1.75 inches
ID please?

These are very common in Florida and I've always just called them "rinocerous beetles".

Strategus antaeus (Drury)
There are three species of Strategus in Florida. One (S. splendens ((Beauvois)) is hornless in both sexes and quite uncommon and one (S. aloeus julianus Burmeister) is confined to the Panhandle.

Thanks very much mike!!
