Bordered Patch - Junonia

Bordered Patch - Junonia
Workman Creek, Sierra Anchas, Gila County, Arizona, USA
July 10, 2008

took me a while
Something bothered me about this one, and it finally dawned on me. It has horns on the head. Checkerspots don't. You can see a trace of blue, and the orange on the head and the pale dashes on the sides fit Junonia too. Problem is, I don't know how to tell J. nigrosuffusa from J. coenia (I think they're the same species, but that's another discussion). Both and intermediates occur in Gila County.

Moved from Bordered Patch.
