Author is Dejean, 1837.
From Greek phyllo leaf, plus baen step, walk (1)
Numbers
Nearctica.com lists 59 species.
Arnett lists 54 species (2)
Size
typically 3-5 mm
Identification
Small, elongated beetles, convex in cross-section. Dillon and Dillon (3) give characters of the genus:
eyes entire (rounded, not notched), finely granulate
antennae almost filiform (threadlike)
tarsi appear four-segmented
tarsal claws broadly toothed near base
