Spongilla fly Larvae

Spongilla fly Larvae
University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA
July 14, 2008
Size: about 1.5mm
I was gathering insects and mites from the pond by the campus horse barn when this tiny guy popped up in my net's catch. I took some photos of it & brought it back to my dorm to look at it under my microscope. I'm proud to say with complete confidence that is this the aquatic larvae of a sponge fly (perhaps it was in the process of leaving the water to build it's cocoon? I've seen empty one left on blades of grass at a horse pond not that far from where I found this guy.)
