Size: 1.25 inches
I thought it was a tarantula hawk but then realized it was a fly. I am thinking it is possibly a soldier fly and would like to confirm that.

It a Mydas Fly (Mydidae). You can tell by the elongate body and paddle-like tips to the antennae. Several of the larger species mimic Pepsis wasps.
