Unidentified Wasp - Megarhyssa macrurus - Female
Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, USA
July 16, 2008
We watched this wasp last evening as she laid what we presume to be her eggs in a crevice in one of her trees. She first seemed to prime her abdomen by flexing and then eventually contorted her body to insert the ovipositor into the tree. The whole process took about 10-15 minutes and was so incredibly awesome! She even wiped her ovipositor off with her legs after the process was over. WOW!

Cool!
