Large black-and-white wasp - Arotes - Acton Vale, Quebec, Canada July 5, 2008 Size: body 2 cm
This female ichneumonid was photographed on the flat surface of a stump, which was partially covered with fungus. She would search with her antennae (curved at the tips) by placing them between the grooves of the fungus. She oviposited in one of the grooves. Habitat was riparian deciduous woods at the top of a slope, and directly behind our RV at a campsite southwest of Acton Vale (1 hour east of Montreal).
