I'm sorry about giving you wrong information, Tom, but the Anicia Checkerspot isn't even in my Guide Books. I'm going to have to rectify this somehow.

Edith's Checkerspot
Looks a whole lot like an Edith's Checkerspot - Euphydryas editha to me. The markings seem more indicative of this than the other possibility, a Variable Checkerspot, especially in the white patches just beyond the postbasal area of the forewing. Most especially the one on the leading edge. That's my impression.
