Beauty - Eumorpha pandorus

Size: approximately 3 1/2 inche

I found this beautiful moth around 12 in the morning, sitting on the floor of my garage. It was very calm when I picked it up and took it inside to snap some pictures, and then I took it back out and let it go, where it flew into our crab apple tree and rested. It was gone in the morning, but i still got the picture. I believe it's a Pandora Sphinx moth, but I'm looking for confirmation and any other information about them.

Beauty indeed!

It is a Pandorus Sphinx - Any Sphinx in the Eumorpha genus is gorgeous, though.

Pandora's sphinx

I am in agreement that this is a Pandora's sphinx moth. However I have been off the wagon for some 18 years & have a question about the species.

I have been tracking another Pandoras, saw it last week was an exact replica of the photo we see..

However this week I observed the same exact moth, woththe exact same markings except brown not green. I have been hunting & hunting & am having no luck. Does anyone know if the sphynx can change color to emulate its surroundings?

I woudl secondly ask does the male look brown, I am lost on thi ssphenomenon, I knwo it is the same moth, but one is gree & one is brown & I have even seen boht at the same time..Help anyone....
