This is a Buprestid in the genus Lampetis, probably L. drummondi, but I wouldn't take it further than genus since I don't think you could confirm that call from a photo. Great find!

Thank you so much!!! I was just totally fascinated with this beautiful bug and it was weird because it was very "sociable" (for lack of a better word). It kept trying to crawl over and onto me every chance it got. I had a terrible time trying to get it's picture because of that.

In a buprestid that's not conducive to longevity. I'd have snatched him up, though if he was that docile I'd have photographed him too. It's really a great find, and one of the larger buprestids in North America. Also: WELCOME TO BUGGUIDE! That's a pretty impressive photo and species to make your debut! I hope we'll see more from you in the future!
