Snowberry Clearwing - Hemaris diffinis - female

Snowberry Clearwing - Hemaris diffinis - Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
September 4, 2005
Lateral view. Trying to work on some ID issues. This appears to be Hemaris diffinis, based on the dark legs and dark line through the eye, and dark underside of the abdomen. However it has a jagged border on the inside of the forewing, supposedly a character of Hemaris thysbe (1). However it is clear this last character is not consistent--I have several photos of what are clearly diffinis with this border jagged.
