Wasp ID - Basalys - female

Wasp ID - Basalys - Female
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
July 18, 2008
Size: ~3.5mm (body)
Very interesting clubbed antennae on this wasp. I saw even smaller ones with the same type of antennae, but did not get an image of them.

Moved
Moved from Diapriidae.

Basalys (Diapriinae)
One of the important characters is the strong 3 (or more uncommonly 4) segmented clava in females.

Diapriidae
Stunning shot of a tiny wasp!

Proctotrupoidea
I'd place it in the Proctotrupoidea - possibly in the family Diapriidae, not too sure though.

[just a thank you note]
the shots like this one make me want to drop whatever i'm doing in my life and spend the rest of it studying hymenopteran miniparasites. I'm flooded with job now and still take a furtive peek at your pic now and then... i wish i could help IDing the darling :-[
still, look here

Thank you...
For all of the help you have given me and others with the identification of the bugs in our submitted images. I've seen quite a number of these tiny wasps and will get images of them eventually....with luck :^)
