American Lady caught by Crab Spider - Misumena
Richmond, Chesterfield County, Virginia, USA
Size: ~2in wingspan
This spider got his meal then left it hanging.

Poor Butterfly!
The Butterfly looks like an American Lady. The two eyespots are what give it away. Compare:

p.s. I can't to see the butterflies get killed too!! cycle of life. I'd hate for the spiders to starve.

Gender
Sorry, but I can't tell the sex of American Lady Butterflies. To me, their colors look too similar and I don't know of a specific trick to single out males from the females.
