which wood borer ? - Chrysobothris
Silver lake, Amador County, California, USA
Size: 1/2"
I have always wanted to see a wood borer .... and , finally ! My husband thought that it was just a fly , but when I went over to inspect ... I was so happy that it is an insect that is new to me . When it flew I saw sparkling emerald green underneath . I did not know that it had wings which is always tricky , especially when the bug cocks his little head to look at you , gets nervous and takes flight ! Luckily , I got a pretty good camera shot as he was found lounging on a pine tree . Thanks for any comments to further my ever-growing buggie knowledge , Beth

Can't wait to get an id on this Chrysobothris. I don't get to see many west coast chrysobothris, so i'm sure this should be a new addition to the guide. Thanks Beth.

Chrysobothris
Definitely Chrysobothris, species ID isn't really possible without a specimen. They're my favorite group too and I plan to work on their systematics. Hope you find more!!
