Spotted beetle - Dynastes tityus - female

Spotted beetle - Dynastes tityus - Female
Sandy Spring, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
July 19, 2008
Size: about 2"
We live in an old house, formerly a log cabin, built about 1800. We found this beetle on the stairs, leading to the attic, on its back. There is a quarter next to it to give you an idea of its size.
