I thought for a second that someone had painted this beetle, but then saw several moving around.

Are you saying that you didn't have a siting of this species in NM before? That's exciting, as I see odd insects all the time here in Southeast Texas, and on trips. Usually, I just ignore them or take a picture and wonder. But, I now have a 12.1 Canon digital camera that helps me get "expert" close-up's of anything, so I'll start looking for more of them. Thanks for the update!

 
Not exactly a sighting
our data map is generated by the images contributed to this site - so even if a species is well-known in a state, if we don't have an image from there it's not going to show on the data map. You contributed BugGuide's first image of this species from New Mexico. Not scientifically significant, but fun nevertheless.
