What kind of cricket? - Gryllus

What kind of cricket? - Gryllus
Salt Lake, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
July 17, 2008
Does anyone know what kind of cricket this is. It has no wings.

Moved
Moved from True Crickets.

Maybe
a camel cricket. Not sure though.

moved to crickets
it reminds me more of a field cricket, but I'm not sure either.

That seems more like it.
These are the only crickets I have ever seen around here. I thought they were the ones who sang so beautifully every night until I took a picture of a tree cricket and someone told me they were the ones who sang. I find as I get older it's shocking how much I really don't know about nature.

singing
often comes from katydids. Check out this site if you want to hear some singers.

Wonderful!
That was a wonderful site, Lynette! I have my window open listening to the loud but gorgeous sound of the snowy tree crickets while I'm listening inside to all the other crickets and katydids on that site. Thanks for the link.
