caterpillar - Orgyia antiqua
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
July 20, 2008
Size: an inch or so
It looks poisonous but I'm not sure....any help would be great :)

Moved from Orgyia.

Moved from Fir Tussock Moth. Thought for sure it was detrita, but then we saw Alberta. Don't know if it's up there. Wagner seems to say coastal plain. ?? Maybe this is vetusta?

Found a
similar image listed as rusty tussock moth, Orgyia antiqua. Data page does show that species as found in Canada.

Looks like
one of the tussock moth caterpillars. I've never heard of them being poisonous, although I don't think I'd eat it:)

Caterpillar
Looks like a white-marked tussock moth caterpillar...Ogyia leucostigma. Like the other tussock moths, very irritating spines.
