Bee Fly - Anthrax georgicus

Bee Fly - Anthrax georgicus
Elysburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 21, 2008
At least, I think it's a bee fly. Found him hovering around in our tree nursery early this morning. I saw a few similar images here in the guide but nothing that actually matched. This is the clearest of several shots. Male?

Moved
Wing pattern is identical to Hemipenthes morio, but Hemipenthes never have the silvery scales at the tip of the abdomen found in many male Anthrax. This is A. georgicus.

Moved from Hemipenthes.

Thanks
Thanks for the ID, Joel.

Joel's the man, too.
Ugh, now I can't rely 100% on wing patterns in bee flies. I'm so disillusioned!

Nice. Hemipenthes, I think.
Several similar ones on this page:

Thanks, Ron
I did look through some of those earlier but couldn't seem to find a good match. But I have to think you are probably right. Perhaps Andy will know it for certain.

Andy's the man.
I swear I saw another bee fly here that looked like yours. Wonder if it's in ID request, or some more general section. Will let you know if I run across it.
