Cockroaches - Blattella germanica

Cockroaches - Blattella germanica
Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California, USA
July 21, 2008
Size: around 15mm
Most of the cockroaches I have seen in Sunnyvale are considerably larger and darker than these. I'm not sure if that makes them any more desirable, but there you have it!

GERMAN COCKROACH!
You didn't find this in a home did you?

This is what I think of as 'The Big Three': The German (Blattella germanica), the American (Periplaneta americana), and the Oriental (Blatta orientalis). These are the three most infimous cockroaches, well known for their invasions of human homes.

Thanks Jonas!
Unfortunately, They did arrive here at our house with a printer, and went unnoticed for a day or so! I have read some comments suggesting that these are particularly bad cockroaches. From what I have read, they are small, nocturnal, adept at hiding, and often tolerant to pesticides.

We are handing this job to a professional. Hopefully, we will get them before they get a strong foothold!

That's good to hear. :)
Good luck! :D

Thanks!
It's a little too soon to tell how this is going to turn out...I hadn't seen any for a while, but saw one last night. Maybe it was reeling from poison, because it was far too slow to escape!

Hmmm...
It could have also been an old one. Like people, cockroaches get old & stiff in their joints as they age.
