Grasshopper - Atlanticus - female

Grasshopper - Atlanticus - Female
Belk, Fayette County, Alabama, USA
July 23, 2008
Size: 2+ Inches
A grass hopper of some kind just hangin out by my front door at night. Never seen one quite like this one. I am used to the long ones with wings and stuff. This one seems more short like and not so arrow dynamic as I am used to. Just curious to what species it is

Moved
Moved from Katydids.

Shield-backed Katydid
reminds me of these.

Interesting.
The downwardly bowed ovipositor makes me suspicious that this is another genus, but I'm not sure there 'is' any other option in Alabama....
