How big is the nest
How big is the nest, and is it still there in one piece.

 
Yes
It is still there, and it's about 4 or 5" diameter.

Aerial yellowjacket.
This is (was) a nest of the aerial yellowjacket, Dolichovespula arenaria. Another three weeks, maybe less, and they would have been done for the season anyway....Hope you don't start having issues with an overabundance of flies now.

 
I know...
...I wasn't the one that sprayed them. The person that kept getting bitten and stung sprayed them. However, I work at a zoo and the gibbons that have to shift past that area have recently been reluctant to do so. It's possible that some of them have been stung as well. Good to know for next season, though, as we usually have some around.
