green moth - Proserpinus terlooii

green moth - Proserpinus terlooii
Univ. of Arizona campus, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 25, 2008
Found on sidewalk of U of A campus. hindwings (ups)were bronze basally and medially, grading into green near margins. Looked through bugguides Saturniids, but nothing close. Hopefully, someone will be able to ID this distinct moth without too much trouble.

Looks like a sphinx moth, perhaps?
the only green one I found on a quick browse was not a good match, though (Gaudy Sphinx, below)

Hi Hannah -
Actually just found my moth - Proserpinus terlooii - check it out on bugguide. And yes, it is a sphinx. Don't know what I was thinking. I've found P. terlooii c-pillars in a couple nearby localities, but this is the first adult. A really pretty moth. Thanks for the input.

Good find
At least I was in the right tribe : )
