I was looking through some...
of the guide pages and found a picture of an egg which looked similar and it looks like it might be a Hickory Horned Devil cat (Citheronia regalis). It may have hatched, but I don't know. I will go back to the tree that I found it on Monday and see if the cat is happily munching away.

Update...
I went back to the tree that I found this egg on and couldn't locate the caterpillar. This was on the 28th. I will try to locate it again later and take some images.
