Bombus sp - Bombus vagans - female

Bombus sp - Bombus vagans - Female
Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
July 25, 2008
Size: 2 cm
July 29th, 2008 NOTE: It looks like this critter is a Bombus vagans female.

July 25th, 2008 NOTE: Followed this critter all over the garden trying to get a picture of its pollen baskets only to realize it only had 2 wings not 4; therefore NOT a bee and NO pollen basket!
I THOUGHT it is in Laphriinae and possibly Laphria thoracica.

Bombus sp - Bombus vagans - female Bumble Bee - Bombus vagans

Bombus (Pyrobombus)
my best guess is B. vagans female

Bombus vagans
Thanks John for the id. I will try to re-key myself just as a learning opportunity.

Bombus sp
This is a Bumble Bee. Check out the antennae on yours and compare to this one. It is quite easy to not see the second pair of wings while they are busily nectaring flower to flower to flower... Just takes a little more practice. I think it's a male but I can't help with species. One of our experts will be along to offer an opinion.

Oops!
My first thought was Bumble Bee but convinced myself it wasn't - will try to id it as a bee. Thanks Stephen!

No worries
I often sit looking at a Laphria and wonder why that bee looks so odd!:)

Perhaps Bombus suckleyi?
I think I have found the species by using Discover Life and have keyed out to Bombus suckleyi.

not suckleyi
not a Psithyrus
