S. grandis?
I'm leaning heavily toward Sphecius grandis for this one, but would love to see more images....

 
What would be needed in terms
What would be needed in terms of diagnostics? This is the best photo that I have, and I'm not sure what I have in terms of other angles. This was very active and hard to photograph, and I didn't want to get real close because it was so big.
