spider - Acacesia hamata

spider - Acacesia hamata
Georgetown, Floyd County, Indiana, USA
July 19, 2008
Size: body: 1/4 inch or so
This spider sits in the leaves. There is no web that I can see. He seemed on guard when I first noticed him (or her), but I found out why...a very small black spider attacked him from the rear and tumble over him and off the end of a leaf. They had evidently been having a dispute before I got there. It was quite a site! It didn't hunt and crawl around like a lot of spiders without webs. It just sat.

Beautiful image of a male orb weaver,
Acacesia hamata in the guide here

Thanks!
I try to look through the guide, but there are so many pics that I often over look photos that would help me. Do male orb weavers make webs?
