Funnel spider?? - Dolomedes albineus

Funnel spider?? - Dolomedes albineus
Waxhaw NC, North Carolina, USA
July 26, 2008
The spider was outside of a funnel, about 10 inches from it. From the tips of the front legs to the tips of the back legs the spider is about 2 inches.

fishing spider
it might be the white-banded fishing spider. See guide page.

It does look like the whiteband
It does look like the whitebanded fishing spider. However, the nearest body of water is close to 1/4 mile away. Do these spiders habitate wooded areas away from water?

Update: It looks like this is Dolomedes albineus. It was stated by Ben Coulter in another post that this species is arboreal. That explains why I found it so far from water.

great
I've moved to the guide page for you.
